How do I register for swim lessons?
Online is the easiest option because it is available to you 24/7 under our Registration tab. Should you have questions prior to registering, fill out the questionnaire under “Contact Us” and we will get back to you within 2-4 days!
How do I know which swim lesson level is best for my student?
Beginners are those who cannot yet swim or may be in the early stages of swimming.

Intermediates are those who may be able to swim a short distance but are unable to do so without supervision and still need to build stamina.

Advanced swimmers are those who can swim on their own and are ready to start learning strokes and continue building stamina in the water.

Don’t worry! We test all swimmers on the first day to ensure they are in the correct group so do your best to put them where they should be and we will move them if they surpass that level.

How do I pay for swim lessons?
When registering online, you are able to choose the online credit card option, or you can pay by cash or check on the first day of lessons. All checks are payable to the UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY.

Where Can I find my schedule?
A confirmation email will be sent to your email with the details of your scheduled lesson.

How do I know if weekly or bi-weekly lessons will be best for my student?
This is personal preference. Each swimmer has individual needs as to how often they should be taking lessons and it is up to your discretion as to what the best option will be for the student.

Can I take more than one session at a time?
Yes, if you decide you would like to sign up for more than one session at a time that is completely fine. If you do so and would like to keep the same instructor for both, let us know and we will do our best to meet your request.

What if I need to change session to a different day/time?
If you need to change your session day(s) or the time of your lesson, let us know and we will do our best to find a day/time that does work for you. Email us at indicating your changes and we will get this fixed to the best of our ability.

What if I would like to request instructor preferences?
Should your student have preferences for an instructor, put your requests down upon signing up or let us know the first day of class and we will do our best to honor the student’s preferences.

How long are the sessions?
Each lesson runs for 30 minutes, which has proven to be an optimal length of time for all ages.

How many students are in each class?
Class sizes range based on participation levels and ability. Ratios average between 2:1 and 3:1 student to instructor.

Do you offer private classes?
Unfortunately, we do not yet offer private lessons as an option. When registering, indicate your preference to be in a smaller class and we will see what we can do!

Do you offer special needs classes?
Absolutely! We have instructors who specialize in this area! If your child has any special needs, we work on a case-by-case basis to aid what is in your child’s best interest. We do our best to construct a program that best suits the needs of your child with each parent.

Student progress
What can I do if I would like my student to be pushed more?
Although the instructors do a great job at challenging students, should you feel that your swimmer needs additional pushing, let one of our on deck supervisors know and we will relay your message to the instructor(s).

How is progress monitored?
At the start of each session, abilities are pre-tested to see where their skills land on our 1-8 skill based levels. At the end of each session, their abilities are tested and results are given on their Oiler Swim School certificate, which they will receive at the end of their last lesson.

What is the highest level of ability your program works with?

Facility / Safety
Where do I watch during the lesson(s)?
In the interest of productivity we ask that all bi-standers watch the lesson from our upstairs windows. This allows the swimmers to focus on their tasks and optimize productivity.
Our lifeguards and on-deck supervisors take great caution is helping all instructors with the safety of all students.

What are the Oiler Swim School Rules?
We have three rules for all participants:
1.    No running or jumping
2.    Listen to your instructor
3.    Have fun!

First Day
What to bring on the first day
All students should bring a swimsuit and towel. Goggles are not required but encouraged for those over the age of 3. All children who are not potty trained must wear a disposable or reusable swim diaper. We provide all other swimming aids for the lesson. No life jackets or other aids will be needed.

What should I expect the first day?
Plan to be at the lesson a few minutes early on the first day. Our parking is unusual (see Facilities / Directions under the Contact Us tab) as this may add a few minutes to your arrival.

Each participant will be paired with his or her instructor prior to the start and the instructor will walk the students downstairs for the lesson. At the end of the lesson, the instructors will walk the participants back upstairs to their families.

How can I ensure my student does not go to the bathroom in the pool?
To avoid a bathroom mishap in the pool, please arrive with enough time to allow for a bathroom visit before the start of the lesson and use swim diapers as necessary.

Missed Classes / Breaks
What if my student misses a swim lesson?
We cannot guarantee a makeup lesson for each missed session, but if you are unable to attend a session and would like to make it up, talk to one of the on-deck supervisors and we will try to accommodate a lesson.

What if a major holiday is going to take place in the middle of a session?
All major holidays are considered prior to scheduling sessions. When a holiday is taking place during session, that session will be moved to the following Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc. after the session would have been completed. All moved days are indicated on the schedule for you to see when signing up.
